Balázs Stumpf-Biró: The more complex a system the more certain it is: the end is near

War, pandemics, economic crisis, migration, global warming. More and more people are saying that all this is a harbinger of the inevitable cataclysm that awaits humanity.

One of them is Balázs Stumpf-Biró, a collapse researcher, who believes that this is not a pessimistic attitude - in times of crisis, it is the pessimists who are the first to go down - but a realistic optimism, which is why he believes that when the crash comes, it is better to be prepared physically, but even more so mentally.

The Deep Adaptation Programme and the Cassandra Programme help us to prepare. We talked about the trends that point to the end being near, why the concept of exponentiality is important in this situation, how fast our ultra-complex civilisation is imagining the simplification of our civilisation, and although we had a dark vision, we rose above our bad feelings on the wings of love and had a pleasant chat with one of the most eminent experts on the subject in the country.

Do you know your neighbours? We continue on the topic of climate crisis and adaptation with evolutionary biologist István Scheuring and Balázs Stumpf-Biró from the Deep Adaptation movement (deepadaptation.hu). One of them believes in mitigation of negative changes and humanity, the other in collapse and preparedness. But how big will the change be, how fast will it happen, and what will happen in the meantime? Can we adapt to it? Jem Bendell's theory is that collapse is inevitable, catastrophe is likely, extinction is possible. In 5-10 years, our lives will certainly be different. Can we focus on needs rather than wants? Is there a happy life in modest circumstances? Can we move from denial to reconciliation and avoid chaos? Mental preparation and unity are the most important things now. If we can look beyond the individual, connect with those around us, redefine our groups, we can win.

Are you worried about the future? Is it self-reproach when you turn the ignition, or do you just ride your bike and eat green? The second season of Above the Clouds is about to start, and this time István Scheuring, PhD, evolutionary biologist (Bátor Tábor volunteer), and Balázs Stumpf-Biró, Hungarian representative of the Deep Adaptation movement (deepadaptation.hu), will help us understand the climate crisis and adaptation. Is the illusion of continuous growth sustainable, and where does the Stone Age function of survival lead? Are the norms we follow changing fast enough? How do we intellectually and emotionally process change? Can humans grasp exponentiality? Either way, the question is eternal: what do we do with the time we have?

Connecting with myself through the collapse of the world's outdated, exploitative system. Balázs Stumpf-Biró has exploded into the public consciousness like a comet of collapse research since moving back to Hungary after 10 years in business in Ireland.

We talk to Balázs Stumpf-Biró, a collapse researcher, about what changes are coming in the not so distant future. Where did we go wrong? Are we humans responsible or is the source of the problem elsewhere?

In the second episode, a hunter and a vegan met. We discuss the unanswered questions of YouTube broadcasting with experts in the One Table EXTRA podcast. Péter Nótás, sporting director of Decathlon hunter, sheds new light on hunting. And on whether eating meat or veganism is the sustainable choice, we talk to Eszter Kiss-Szabó, Communications Manager of the Responsible Gastronomy Foundation and Balázs Stumpf-Biró, futurologist. We also analyse how to debate well with our resident experts, the Deep Air Project team.

Those who accept that our complex societies are increasingly likely to collapse will be the first communities to know that there is nothing more important to do today than to prepare.
That being said, even the most thorough preparation cannot guarantee our safety, but since we can be protected not only by action but also by omission, we can at least say with peace of mind that, when the time comes, we have done what we could.
The goal can only be to mitigate the physical and psychological damage caused by the collapse. This is the essence of a community response to this, not that some will survive longer in their caves than others.

We may hope our time is infinite, but the winds of change are blowing more and more. But what is coming? Can we anticipate it? And can we prepare for it? From the climate crisis, to rising food prices, to the road ahead for us and our children, we talk to collapse researcher Balázs Stumpf-Biró in the Green Belt about our increasingly shaping future. Hosted by Réka Ölvedi.

In this episode, we are joined by a futurologist to look at what we can expect in the coming years and decades. It's a bit of a long conversation, because we're talking about a very important topic that can't be discussed in a nutshell.
The Deep Adaptation Movement Facebook group is also discussed, which you can find by clicking here.
