Gershimov appointed, General Armageddon demoted
Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov, the supreme military commander of the Russian armed forces, has been appointed to head the war in Ukraine, with the current commander-in-chief, Sergei Surovkin, aka General Armageddon, demoted to his deputy by Defence Minister Soygu.
Wagner Group and the siege of Soledar
Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder of the Wagner mercenary group, announced that his gunmen had taken control of the entire territory of the town of Soledar in the Donetsk region, with fighting still raging in the centre.
Tank supply to Ukraine
Poland has decided to deliver Leopard tanks to Ukraine as part of an international coalition, Polish President Andrzej Duda announced.
Western criticism of the Ukrainian leadership
The Ukrainians are suffering huge losses in the siege of Bahmut, for no reason at all, and are putting the whole war at risk - according to a growing number of Western voices, most recently in an article in Die Welt. One expert told the paper that the Ukrainians are losing too many soldiers and weapons, leaving no resources for offensive operations.
